Eaton Centre gunman in police custody

Less than two days after Saturday’s Eaton Centre shooting, Toronto police have a suspect in custody.
Toronto police say they have made an arrest in connection with an incident Saturday when a person opened fire at the Eaton Centre’s food court, killing one man, and sending six others to the hospital with bullet wounds. According to news sources, the suspect turned himself in to police early Monday, at about 2:30 a.m..
Ahmed Hassan, a 24-year-old Toronto man who was known to police and had possible gang affiliations, was targeted by the gunman, and was killed instantly on the scene at roughly 6:20 p.m.. Seven others were injured as a result of the rampage, including a 13-year old boy visiting from Port Hope, and a 28-year-old pregnant woman who briefly went into labour after being knocked down amidst the chaos, but was released from hospital on Sunday without having her baby.
No further details of the arrest have been disclosed, but Toronto Police Services will be giving a press conference at 2 p.m. Monday.
Brett Lawrie, Toronto Blue Jays third baseman, was among those at the Eaton Centre during the shooting, and broke the news to his more than 128, 000 Twitter followers. Lawrie, who heard the gunshots and fled with his friend to the Future Shop across the street, described his actions as “instant panic.”
Luka Rocco Magnotta spotted in France on the weekend

The subject of a now-international manhunt for the brutal “body parts murder” was spotted in France over the weekend, though police are saying he could still be on the move.
Montreal police confirmed Sunday that Luka Rocco Magnotta was near Paris as recently as Friday, according to intel from the French authorities. Police spokesman Ian Lafreniere said Magnotta might not still be in the country, as he has, “been known to travel.”
Magnotta is wanted for the slaying and brutal dismemberment of Jun Lin, 33, a Chinese student at Concordia University. Lin’s torso was found inside a suitcase left for garbage collection outside of Magnotta’s Montreal apartment, and two body parts, including a hand and foot, were mailed to political offices in Ottawa last week.
Ride For Heart raises a record $5M
More than 13, 000 cyclists rode down the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation on Sunday, raising more than $5-million, a new record.
According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, a Canadian dies every seven minutes from heart disease or stroke, making this push for research, donations and awareness all the more significant.
