A New all-Canadian production of CATS is set to premiere June 11th at Yonge street’s Panasonic Theatre.
The famous Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, based on T. S. Elliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats has taken to the Toronto stage 10 times over the past 28 years. However, this is the first time since its premier that the production will be fully Canadian.
The new show will be produced in part by Marlene Smith, who also produced Toronto’s first staging of CATS 28 years ago. Smith will be joined by producers Corey Ross, David Galpern, and Charles Roy. The group hope to “bring a fresh, young perspective to this production” said the Toronto Star today. They will be joined by Director and Choreographer Dave Campbell, in what is his 5th Canadian production of CATS.
A favourite among performers and theatre-goers, the new production drew 400 actors to an audition this week.
