The Canadian Opera Company (COC) is set to host Operanation 9, an amalgam of artistic exploration and live performances, on October 18th, 2012. The COC’s Studio Ensemble will collaborate with world-renowned artists Arkells and Nelly Furtado, making for a riveting series of live performances. Operanation will be held at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, giving it the enchanting backdrop of floor-to-ceiling windows and a translucent glass staircase.
This year’s theme is Sweet Revenge and will feature a score of indulgent cuisine, cocktails, extravagant attire and a specially designed combination of musical and visual arts. The theme pays homage to the COC’s fall production of Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus. The operetta binds together elaborate revenge, mistaken identity, seduction and champagne, making it a decadent comedy. Operanation is North America’s largest opera party and brings in over $100,000 annually to help support Canada’s leading training program for young opera professionals.
“Operanation is a celebration of music and art in all its forms. It takes a particularly fresh approach to changing opinions about the traditional notions of opera by showing how opera crosses over and connects with all musical genres as well as various artistic styles,” says COC General Director Alexander Neef in a press release.
Operanation attracts over 1000 guests annually and is the COC’s premier fundraising event.
