An old, abandoned Walmart in McAllen, Texas has been transformed into a 124,500-square-foot public library, making it the largest single-floor public library in the United States. The award-winning project was taken on by architects Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, who developed a number of glass enclosures within the space, along with 64 computer labs, an auditorium, an art gallery, a used bookstore, a café, and more.
With the news of Bathurst Street’s impending Walmart woes, why don’t we just cut to the chase and turn the space into something, well, cooler. Come on Toronto, Texas is doing it, and their governor can’t even locate a vagina.
