Some entertainers revel in the idea of obscurity. That is, they create work that is mildly alienating, speak to friends in low-lit bars about topics you’ve never heard of and wear the kinds of shoes where you ask yourself “huh?” that you then see on everyone months later. Max Turnbull, who is most often referred to by his stature-appropriate stage name Slim Twig, is one such musician. The mixtape he made for us is wildly eclectic, bold, and unpredictable.
Even his writing reflects such notions. Words from the man himself:
“Here’s a mix compiling some choice cuts culled mostly from obsessive
trolling on the left-field blog circuit. Soundtrack music, library
cuts, psych pop & 60’s french crap – all genre-black-holes exerting a
tremendous gravitational pull on my impressionable music-mind. Good
luck crate diggin for these scorchers, in the flesh this mix ain’t
cheap (I have physical tokens representing very few of these ditties).
Originally compiled as an X-mas gift, I hope you find something to
enjoy…”
