The Polaris Music Prize is once again upon us, and while the 2014 edition of Canada’s most prestigious music prize will probably lack drama of last year’s event, this year’s gala is set to honour an amazing collection of Canadian musical talent.
The gala starts tonight at 7 pm and is being hosted at The Carlu.
In case you haven’t followed along with this year’s nomination process, the 10 albums competing for the top prize are:
- Arcade Fire — Reflektor
- Basia Bulat — Tall Tall Shadow
- Mac DeMarco — Salad Days
- Drake — Nothing Was The Same
- Jessy Lanza — Pull My Hair Back
- Owen Pallett — In Conflict
- Shad — Flying Colours
- Tanya Tagaq — Animism
- Timber Timbre — Hot Dreams
- YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN — UZU
Of those 10 bands and artists, Basia Bulat, Mac DeMarco, Jessy Lanza, Owen Pallett, Shad and Tanya Tagaq will all be performing at the gala. Arcade Fire, Timber Timbre and YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN will not be performing, but several of their members will be in attendance. The only person missing the affair is Drake; he has a show tonight at LA’s Hollywood Bowl with Lil Wayne.
The limited amount of tickets that were released to the public have sold out. However, the gala can still be caught online through AUX TV’s live video stream. Those with Sirus XM or Verge XM radio can listen to the gala on channels 161 and 173, respectively. That said, whether you watch the stream online or listen on through satellite radio, expect a lot of downtime between acts if the event is paced like previous years.
With that said, who do you think will win the prize?
