Back in June, Toronto Standard profiled Tod Machover and the collaborative composition project he is leading in partnership with Toronto Symphony Orchestra. A Toronto Symphony: Concerto for Composer and City has the ambitious goal of creating a symphony that not only represents the city but is also created with contributions from as many individuals within the city as possible. After months of collecting a mass of recordings and musical compositions, the project is heading into the final stages.
Today, A Toronto Symphony announced the release of an interactive composition app called Media Scores that Torontonians can experiment with to help shape the final product. Users manipulate lines on a graphic interface to alter the texture and form of the different movements of the piece as it exists so far. Watch Machover explain how it works in the video below and visit tso.ca/composerandcity to try the app.
