“Should we just play chopsticks?” Siri asks, overwhelmed by the new competition of the Windows 8 tablet. The commercial flaunts the tablet’s strengths over the iPad, including the ability to multitask with more than one application open, Microsoft Office software compatibility, and an automatically updating newsfeed on its homepage. In addition, the 64GB tablet weighs in at $449, about $250 cheaper than the 64GB iPad.
The ad (“Less Talking, More Doing”) seeks to rebrand the iPad as a high-tech toy for amateurs, whereas the Window’s tablet is engineered for the more productive purpose of taking care of business. If Mac’s “I’m a PC” campaign branded Microsoft as the old, serious, square guy, then this campaign rolled with those accusations, making “old” and “serious” sexy.
The campaign also released a second ad which, while less humorous, presents some seriously convincing arguments for their case. Among them: a thinner and lighter body, a built in microSD card reader, and simple printer connectivity.
Whether or not you’re as convinced as I am on the strengths of the Tablet over the iPad, the ad is undeniably pretty funny. For more Siri related humour, check out the video below (NSFW).
