The CBC has just released the conclusion to their five-week countdown of The 100 Greatest Canadian Albums Ever, with Neil Young’s Harvest (1972) grabbing the top spot. The list was narrated by “a diverse array of musicians, writers, actors and artists,” because no one knows Canadian music like Russell Crowe.
The list is… actually pretty good, if not just a little on the safe side. Unsurprisingly, the countdown seems to exclude a lot of contemporary / current musicians, but features a small handful of post Y2K albums (think Drake, Broken Social Scene, and any musician ever associated with Broken Social Scene).
Where’s PARTYNEXTDOOR on this list???
Compared to most other best-of lists and countdowns, the CBC pumped out a surprisingly satisfying list. Coming soon to Toronto Standard: a countdown of the best countdowns, scored to Beyoncé’s “Countdown”, compiled into a single tweet.
