There may not be life on Mars, but there sure as hell will be pizza.
Supporter of all things awesome, NASA, has given a $125,000 grant toward a 3D food printer, which has the noble first goal of creating a fully edible pizza pie. NASA is funding in the machine in the hopes of feeding astronauts in space during last-distance travel, though the machine also has the potential to put a serious dent in the global-hunger crisis by reducing waste.
The printer will use a series of cartridges containing different powders, which can be combined in different variations to produce a series of recipes. Each cartridge should last around 30 years. The 3D printer has already been successful in producing wrenches, and even guns, so who’s to say a pizza is so far off?
You hear that Ketchup Bot? Sounds like there’s a new foodbot in town.
