Pitchfork Advance is streaming the smooth synth pop sounds of Toronto dreamwave quartet DIANA’s debut LP “Perpetual Surrender” a week early. The group was formed last year after Joseph Shabason and Kieran Adams recruited vocalist Carmen Elle, having seen her perform in various bands around town. (DIANA has since added Paul Matthews to round out their live shows.) The combination of Pet Shop Boys-esque bass lines, lush grooves and Elle’s enticing vocals are reminiscent of Destroyer’s “Kaputt”, not surprising considering Shabason’s contributions to that record. Perfect for a lazy afternoon of dreaming or a late night of dance floor shuffling.
“Perpetual Surrender” is out August 20th on Paperbag Records in Canada and Jagjaguwar elsewhere. Listen to the whole thing on Pitchfork Advance.
