Toronto’s ‘psychic’ thieves warning

Toronto police are looking for three women thieves who allegedly claim to have psychic abilities, and later steal from unsuspecting victims.

Authorities allege the three women, all Chinese and in the 40-60-year-old range, approached two elderly women, and exchanged words in Cantonese, according to the Toronto Star. From this information, the psychics told the victims, ages 76 and 53, were told their families were at risk of great harm, and that they should give over their valuables to be blessed.

When the women asked for their bags of valuables, cash and jewelry back, they received an empty bag instead. Each victim was approached by the psychic team when they were walking on their own.

Quebec student protest leader sentenced

A Quebec student protest figurehead and leader has been sentenced to 120 hours of community service, for being found in contempt of court over the Maple Spring.

The Canadian Press is reporting Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, the spokesperson for CLASSE — the organization who led the student rallies — was punished for inciting his supporters and other students to defy a court protest order. The maximum sentence for this crime is a $50,000 fine, and a year in prison, both punishments that the 23-year-old avoided.

Yet, Nadeau-Dubois is hardly taking this news lightly, writing on Twitter, “It’s not over. …

Remember that my sentence will only apply if the Court of Appeal upholds the original decision. Hearing on January 22.”

Does his appeal have a chance?

Carly Rae scores 2 Grammy nominations

Carly Rae Jepsen may not have scored a nomination for Best New Artist for this year’s Grammy Awards, but she did pick up two other nods, including Song of the Year for “Call Me Maybe.”

The infectious earworm, and Canadian success story, was also recognized in the Best Pop Solo Performance categories. But, Jepsen was not the only Canadian to score big at the Grammys. Though her labelmate Bieber was left off the list,Toronto’s Drake raked in three nominations, including one for Best Rap Performance for “HYFR.”

Was the Biebs robbed? Should Carly Rae be the next ‘Best New Artist,’ or is that a Milli Vanilli-style curse?
