What caused the Rogers Internet outage?
A Rogers Internet service outage spread across the Greater Toronto Area, across Ontario, and even extended to New Brunswick for a few hours on Wednesday night.
The telecom giant, which identifies itself as Canada’s largest provider of high-speed internet, and voice, wireless and data services, has not yet addressed what caused the disruption. The Canadian Press reports service was restored by early Thursday.
Rogers users took their frustration with the company to Twitter, and a number asked for a discount, and/or threatened to switch service providers. The company responded through its @RogersHelps handle, but revealed little information, writing, “Some Rogers customers may be experiencing issues with internet service. We are working to resolve asap and apologize for the inconvenience.”

Porter strike is a go (but planes fly)
Porter Airways will go ahead with all scheduled flights, in spite of a strike by its employees who fuel the planes at Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport.
680 News reports 22 Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union-represented workers began job action at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday. The strikers have walked off the job to lobby for better health benefits, a wage increase, and also as a means to address safety concerns.
On the Porter Airlines website, a statement says “all flights are scheduled to operate normally,” but also encourages its passengers to check their individual flight statuses, just in case.
In the interim, the union has asked the public to cancel their Porter flights until a new deal is brokered, according to 680 News.
Jimmy Fallon’s Black Simon & Garfunkel
Remember how ABC moved Jimmy Kimmel Live! to 11:35 p.m. to reignite the late-night wars against Jay Leno and David Letterman? Well, Jimmy Fallon has an answer, or a way to get people interested in his show inadvertently, by taking requests from the audience.
An audience member made a request for a Black Simon and Garfunkel rendition of Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds,’ and The Roots delivered. Styled to look like the band, The Roots delivered a spot-on version of RiRi’s hit with a little extra soul.
Stay tuned for the “lai lai lai lai lai” — it’s the best part.
