Watermain breaks at historic Toronto restaurant; a Rob Ford forecast; meet Cory & Topanga's daughter. Your Morning Cable

Watermain breaks at historic Toronto restaurant

A downtown watermain break saw water flood out of a historic Toronto restaurant and into the parking lot of a nearby apartment building on Tuesday morning.

CityNews writes the basement of Carman’s Dining Club on Alexander Street, near Church and Carlton streets, was where the leak began, at around 4:20 a.m. The restaurant, which closed in 2009, did not have its watermain listed on a map of the building, resulting in a longer-than-expected repair time.

Earlier on Tuesday, CityNews reports a pipe burst at an abandoned building nearRichmond and Spadina streets. These plumbing woes can be attributed to a freeze-thaw cycle which can cause permanent damage to underground pipes.

A Rob Ford Forecast

How would Rob Ford do in a head-to-head matchup against three possible rivals in 2014?

A new Forum Research poll, conducted on Friday evening, surveyed 1,099 Torontoresidents to calculate just how the mayor would do in a hypothetical election. The Toronto Star reports both Olivia Chow and former Progressive Conservative leader John Tory beat Ford by a 12-point spread, with the Trinity-Spadina earning 52 per cent of the vote to the mayor’s 40 per cent. Meanwhile, Tory polled at 48 per cent, compared to Ford’s 36 per cent.

Other matchups put Ford against councillor and TTC chair Karen Stintz, who beat Ford by 49 per cent to 40 per cent. But, the survey did not predict Ford losses across the board — when up against councillor Adam Vaughan, the mayor’s left-leaning rival, he won 45 per cent of the vote compared to Vaughan’s 43 per cent. This results in a statistical tie, due to the 3-point margin of error in the Forum survey.

Yet, there is a more decisive win for Ford when paired up against the implausible, and Juiced, candidate, Jose Canseco. In that matchup, Ford earned 49 per cent of the public’s vote, where Canseco polled at a respectable 31 per cent.

The next mayoral election is not until 2014, and while several candidates can vie for the title, it remains to be seen if any of the aforementioned ‘contenders’ will race against Ford. Would you want to, considering the numbers?

Meet Cory & Topanga’s daughter

Yearning for the Boy Meets World reboot? Meet Cory and Topanga’s daughter!

Entertainment Weekly is exclusively reporting that Rowan Blanchard, 11, will play the main character in Girl Meets World, as the daughter of Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) and Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel). The spinoff will air on the Disney Channel, likely in its 2013-2014 schedule.

Blanchard’s credits include The Back-up Plan and Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D. The spinoff will shoot a pilot next month, and is very likely to be picked up for a full show order.

The original Boy Meets World aired from 1993 to 2000 on ABC’s famed TGIF lineup.
