John Tory to announce his recommendations for Ontario Place
The future of Ontario Place will become less cloudy when John Tory reveals his recommendations for the waterfront landmark at Queen’s Park, on Thursday morning.
Since the Feb. announcement that the park, waterpark, amusement park and Cinesphere would be shut down for redevelopment until at least 2017, many have speculated about its fate. Tory, the Chair of the Minister’s Advisory Panel on Ontario Place Revitalization, will release his final report about the former hotspot’s possible future, in an announcement at 11 a.m.
CityNews is reporting the findings will present a multitude of recommendations for the site’s revitalization, including a mix of residential and recreational developments. For now, all that has been revealed is Tory’s suggestion for the re-opening of the site’s former outdoor music venue, the rotating Forum stage. The venue, levelled in 1994 to create the popular Molson Amphitheatre, hosted several classical music concerts, as well as well-known acts, including The Temptations and The Tragically Hip.
The report and recommendations will assist the government on how to best revitalize Ontario Place, and make it a draw for both Torontonians and tourists.
Blue Jays’ Arencibia on the DL
Sigh. Another game, another Blue Jay down. In last night’s epic 16-0 loss to the Oakland Athletics, catcher J.P. Arencibia broke his hand, and is expected to miss six weeks of playing time.
Though the catcher, a fan favourite, finished out the inning behind the plate, Blue Jays player Jeff Mathis batted for him in the bottom of the second, and played for him from then on.
Michael Jackson’s kids get a new guardian
Tito Jackson’s son is now the temporarily-appointed guardian of the deceased King of Pop’s children, after a court hearing on Wednesday.
A family feud has erupted amongst the Jacksons, and as a result of Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine’s visit to Arizona, Tito Joe “TJ” Jackson will serve as the temporary guardian of Michael’s three children. Before this appointment, the kids were solely entrusted to their grandmother’s care. Beyond yesterday’s “Kristen Stewart is cheating on Robert Pattinson – and apologized! – bombshell,” the wildest celebrity story is the custody battle for Michael Jackson’s kids and estate.
Following the ruling, Katherine Jackson told ABC News that the Superior Court Judge’s decision was, “based on a bunch of lies.” Katherine was reported as being held against her will in Arizona, to be prevented from fulfilling her role as guardian due to the, “intentional acts of third parties” – something she denies.
