Tim Hortons has a class-action win, Sarkozy hides from eggs in a cafe, and Canadians top the world in internet use. Your Morning Cable.

Crumb-y Tim Hortons Class-Action Case Tossed Out by Judge

Tim Hortons has won a four-year, $2-billion legal battle against its franchise owners, after a judge threw out a class-action lawsuit over the price of doughnuts. Seriously.

Franchise owners alleged a price-per-doughnut increase unfairly robbed them of profit. The price of doughnuts increased from seven cents when made from scratch, to 18 to 20 cents each under the new “Always Fresh conversion.” Of course, the “Always Fresh conversion” is a farcical namesake, seeing as since 2002, all Tim Hortons’ baked goods have been made off-site.

Regardless, the Ontario Superior Court justice ruled the franchisees benefited from the iconic national brand, and that high profits on coffee should negate their lower margins on food.

The Tim Hortons brand may be rolling in dough, but the question remains as to whether or not franchisees are getting a crumb-y deal.

Cozy like Sarkozy? The French President Hides Out in a Cafe as Protestors try to Pelt Him with Eggs

French President Nicolas Sarkozy was hardly cozy Wednesday as he hid in a cafe, under siege from hundreds of angry protesters armed with eggs. Many of the protestors were Basque nationals, carrying posters of his Socialist rival, frontrunner Francois Hollande.

It is unclear if his security detail used baguettes to fend off the ovum barrage.

Sarkozy, currently running for re-election, has been the subject of riotous scorn since the start of the campaign trail. However, his security detail has been scaled down during visits to different regions to help the leader seem more approachable and interactive with voters.

In a bizarre turn of events, riot police protected Sarkozy as he took refuge in an otherwise low-key cafe in the Bar du Palais area in central Bayonne. No one was harmed, but what is politics without cracking a few eggs?

Surprise! Canada tops list of global online-using countries

Even with pornography left off the list, according to a ComScore study, Canadians are spending more time online than any other country; including the United States, and even China.

The majority of that time, about 45 hours a month per person, on average, is spent on social networking sites like Facebook, or video sharing sites, like YouTube. The United States tracked an average about 38.6 hours a month, per person.

Hmm. The high usage also extends to Canadians in different income brackets. Those with a household income above $60,000 spend more time surfing sites dedicated to news, politics, business, and books. Those under the $60,000 threshold can be found on dating, travel, gambling, music and car-related sites, most of the time.

But, what does this all mean? I bet more and more Canadians are checking out the Double Rainbow YouTube video just to be sure.
