Target’s Canadian opening day

American retailer Target will open its first three Canadian stores in Ontario communities on Tuesday, at 8 a.m.

The company is calling the three openings in Guelph, Fergus and Milton, Ont. a “soft launch,” or a testing ground, prior to its Ontario-wide opening at the beginning of April. 680 News reports another 21 stores are expected to open inOntario this month, and between 125 and 135 locations will sprout up across the country overall.

The popular U.S.chain has been building buzz in Ontariothrough pop-up stores and an ad campaign featuring the “won’t you be my neighbour?” Mr. Rogers theme song.

Will you make the trek to one of its first few stores, or will you be first in line for an opening in the GTA?

Debit card skimming hits new low

Skimming-related debit card fraud losses are at its lowest level in 10 years, according to new data released by the Interac Association.

The Canadian Press is reporting new figures that list national skimming-related debit card losses hit $38.5-million in 2012, down from a 2009 high of $142-million, for the lowest-overall level since 2003. Interac began recording debit card fraud loss data that same year. This reportedly represents less than one per cent of nationwide Interac card use.

The company attributes this fraudulent decrease to increased security features, and the widespread implementation of magnetic stripe, chip and PIN technology.

Dexter’s final season?

Is it the end for Dexter? CBS Corp. President and CEO Les Moonves called the show’s upcoming eighth season its “last” in a conference call on Monday.

Broadcast & Cable first reported this possibility, citing a conversation Deutsche Bank’s 2013 dbAccess Media, Internet & Telecom Conference in Palm Beach. When discussing Showtime’s upcoming slate of shows, Moonves said, “We have Ray Donovan coming on, with Liev Schreiber, which comes on with Dexter‘s last season starting in June…,” which may be more than just a hint.

Dexter airs on the CBS-owned Showtime in the U.S., and hit record-breaking ratings in its seventh season. However, many of its fans are requesting the series end sooner rather than later for the sake of the story.
