New Danzig shooting details announcement

The Toronto police will announce additional charges in the Danzig Street shooting in an announcement on Thursday afternoon.

Shaquan “Bam Bam” Mesquito, 18, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, reckless discharge of a firearm and 23 counts of aggravated assault, as revealed in a news conference two weeks ago. The Scarborough-area shooting occurred on July 16 at a neighbourhood barbecue, killing two people, Shyanne Charles, 14, and Joshua Yasay, 23, and wounding 23 others.

According to 680 NewsToronto police also released composite sketches of two “persons of interest,” and Nahom Tsegazab, 19, was arrested and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.

The Toronto police will reveal new details about the Danzig Street shooting at 2 p.m.

College Park’s $3-million makeover

College Park will get a $3-million development makeover from the City of Toronto, thanks to development fees from a nearby condo building.

Aura, Canada’s tallest condominium at the corner of Yonge and Gerrard Sts. will provide the funds to help restructure the area’s park, skating rink and landscaping. According to the Toronto Star, the city is carrying a $299-million backlog of Toronto parks repair, and this money will help revitalize the area.

The park, constructed on top of an underground parking garage, may need additional funds to complete the repairs. A community meeting at the nearby Delta Chelsea hotel on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. will help councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam and city staff decide how to allocate the funds.

The Toronto Star reports plans are in place to maintain the skating rink, named for Canadian figure skater Barbara Ann Scott, which may be renovated or relocated.

Alicia Keys gets cartoon-y

Alicia Keys appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, bouncing here and there and everywhere.

The actress-singer sang the theme song to the 80s and 90s cartoon classic, Gummi Bears, in typically Fallon-esque performance. The Adventures of the Gummi Bears was a Disney animated TV show which profiled the happy-go-lucky tales of seven bears ‘enhanced’ by a magical gummiberry juice.

Not unlike Tom Hanks’ slam poem about the 80s and 90s family TV staple Full House, also performed on Fallon’s show, Keys’ version injected some melancholy and soul into the well-known theme song. Just delightful.
