LOCAL

Toronto police constable James Forcillo, charged with second-degree murder in the streetcar shooting death of Sammy Yatim, is out on bail. Forcilla has four sureties, including his wife and her family, taking on the $500,000 bail. [CBC]

TTC workers are rejecting new proposed uniforms because they resemble the red and blue colours of the Montreal Canadiens. Until last year when they finally made the playoffs, one might expect them to be just as likely to reject the blue and white colours of the Leafs. [CBC]

A Toronto man faces 13 charges in connection with a three-vehicle crash at Royal York and Lawrence Avenue West that left a 60-year-old man dead and his daughter critically injured. The charges include: dangerous operation of a vehicle resulting in death, impaired driving, failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death, and theft and fraud charges, as well as possession of property obtained by crime. NATIONAL

Sears Canada cut 245 jobs, mostly at the head office in Toronto, and are moving part of the work overseas. A spokesman said the majority of the IT work will move to the Philippines and the majority of the finance and payroll work in India. [CBC]

A review board has uphelf the firing of a former army sniper from the Edmonton police service for urinating on another officer and other misconduct. In its ruling, the board said the decision to fire Constable Rob Furlong for his misconduct during a night of heavy drinking at a police training event was not too harsh. [Globe and Mail]

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau announced on Twitter that his wife is pregnant with their third child. Stephen Harper’s two children were both under ten when he was elected, and Obama’s telegenic family was a familiar sight during his 2008 campaign. [National Post]

 

INTERNATIONAL

A 21-year-old interning at a London investment bank has died after reportedly working for 72 hours in a row. The business studies undergraduate suffered from epilepsy and collapsed in the shower, dying seven days before he was due to complete his summer internship. [The Independent]

Newly declassified documents offer more details about the CIA executed the overthrow of the democractically elected Iranian Prime Minister 60 years ago. It also offers explanation for covert action eerily similar to arguments for curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions today. [Globe and Mail]

The White House distanced itself from Britiain’s handling of the leaked NSA documents, saying it would be difficult to imagine US authorities following the example of Whitehall and demanding the destruction of the media hard drives. This comes after Washington distanced itself from the handling of David Miranda. [The Guardian]
