Above, artists take aim at advertisers. Image via Upworthy
It seems you can’t even urinate in a public washroom without someone trying to sell you something. Advertisers have placed screens above urinals, posters in stalls, and now – in what’s another effort to target captive audiences – they’ve developed an interactive display controlled by viewers’ urine streams. But if you can’t relieve your bladder unharried, what can you do? Well, with an image that’s surfaced citing a Banksy quote, unknown artists are fighting back. “Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrance and re-use,” the Coke ad parody reads. And while the artists are arguably selling a message just like an advertiser would, we’ll still take it over p-controlled media any day.
