According to the City of Toronto’s latest Economic Dashboard report, our city has surpassed Chicago to become North America’s fourth largest city. Toronto’s population, according to a report released in February by Statistics Canada, is 2,791,140, in comparison to Chicago’s 2,707,120. That means it follows Mexico City, New York, and Los Angeles in its size. The annual rate of growth is around 38,000 people, and has been increasing steadily over the past 10 years. Mayor Rob Ford confirms that “Toronto is a desirable location for people to live and work.” The vibrancy of the city has attracted many people, and the growing rate of new condos and buildings only means that there is room for more growth. After Rob Ford had a meeting with (Rahm) Emanuel, the mayor of Chicago, they concluded that “creating economic opportunity to ensure prosperity for both centres” will remain their focus.
