Screengrab from 2007 TUFF Winner, Dundas n’ Bathurst.
Canadian filmmaker Bruce McDonald of Hard Core Logo (1996) and Pontypool (2008) fame will be judging the 7th annual Toronto Urban Film Festival (TUFF) to take place from September 6th to 16th on Pattison Onestop screens on TTC platforms. The festival is a unique opportunity for emerging filmmakers to reach an audience of one million daily TTC riders. Entries are limited to one-minute in length silent films and the top 3 films as selected by McDonald and TUFF programmer Angie Driscoll will screen every ten minutes on loop. In addition, one winner will receive the $2,500 Naish McHugh Award for Emerging Filmmakers from the City of Toronto.
Submissions and winners from past years can be found on TUFF’s website. We recommend Dundas N’ Bathurst, 2007’s surreal winning video, as the place to start. Submissions are due by July 15th but get your film in by June 15th to avoid the $20 entry fee.
