A Toronto cyclist going by the name velo tastic has been documenting her confrontations with city drivers with a helmet mounted camera and posting the videos of bad driving behaviour to YouTube. The high-light (or low-light depending on your perspective) comes when a driver nearly hits an oncoming car while passing the cyclist, prompting the driver to get out of her car, sending the road users into a full-blown screaming match. The driver insists the cyclist should have gotten out of her way because bikes move slower than traffic. The cyclist shouts of the driver’s car, “It’s a weapon!” and recommends looking into the Highway Traffic Act. It’s not all cringe-inducing. One of the videos shows an example of the proper way to pass a cyclist, which is, as velo tastic says, patiently.
