Ever wonder what it really means to be Canadian? Director and producer Robert Cohen has.
That’s why he’s taking to the popular crowdfunding website Indiegogo to fund a documentary that tries to answer that very question.
The documentary Being Canadian follows Cohen on an epic coast to coast journey of discovery, a trip he decided to take after years of annoyance over false stereotypes about his homeland. Throughout his travels, Cohen searches for answers from those he encounters as he tries to prove there’s more to Canada than beavers and hockey.
Cohen, who has worked on everything from The Simpsons to the second and third Austin Powers films, hopes to raise the $95,000 needed to finish the film (for fall 2013 release) through online donations. He explains the decision in a news release: “In order to keep the film authentic and maintain creative and quality control, it had to be completed independently.”
Just a few of the notables Canucks lending support to the film include Dan Aykroyd, Will Arnett, Former Prime Minister Kim Campbell, Michael J. Fox, Malcolm Gladwell, The Barenaked Ladies, Howie Mandel, Rick Mercer, Alanis Morrisette, Mike Myers, Russell Peters, Jason Priestley and more.
