Yumemiru: The App That Controls Your Dreams
Advertising that it can help you sleep better, this free app can control your dreams. Actually.

Literally translated to “see the dream,” Yumemiru is a application for your iPhone or iPad that, when activated, will control your dreams. Or at least that’s what they claim. While we have not yet personally tested this app, the technology and approach is convincing.

The app will allegedly detect–using a microphone coupled with some very mysterious technology or magic, whichever–when you are in the REM stage of your sleep: the time when you are most susceptable to suggestion. At this point it will begin planting audio cues to influence your thoughts as you delve into deeper and deeper sleep.

The user may choose from a variety of different scenarios ranging from falling in love, flying around wherever you want, getting rich, or more mundane activities such as walking through a forest or going to the beach. And hey–why not–you can also share your dreams on social media.

Anyone who graduated high school and read 1984 can likely think of a plethora alarmist potential applications for this technology. Possibilities include ‘sponsored dreams’ from advertisers to significantly more villianous possibilities of brainwashing or even torture. Oh, and this app was developed by Japan’s Technology Miraiworks and is available for download free in the iTunes store. Enjoy!
