Of late, clever-girl bloggers are all about Twin Peaks, the David Lynch show most of them aren’t old enough to have watched. Chloe Wise, 20, is no exception—just an exceptional painter with acute style ken. For this installment of our bi-weekly Beauty Myth, in which we hand over our favouritest in colour cosmetics to a local artist or illustrator and ask they paint a portrait of someone they find beautiful, Wise paints the incorrigible stunner Audrey Horne, a hero of fiction played on Twin Peaks by Sherilyn Fenn (whatever happened?!). “She’s the epitome of a seductress,” explains Wise. “A sexy cross between your classic vamp and a 90s schoolgirl—what’s not to love?”
LIPS: Nothing’s more early-Lynchian than a M.A.C. lipstick named “Lady Danger” ($18 at M.A.C. stores across Toronto); all his women are trouble.
BROWS: Horne’s perma-raised eyebrows made her seem an unsolvable riddle. To recreate those great arches, Chloe used Smashbox Limitless eyeliner (can double as brow-enhancer) in “Java,” a smoky brown ($22 at Sephora, Murale and Shopper’s Drug Mart) and Benefit’s “Highbrow,” a softest-pink pencil applied under the brow for maximum optical lift ($26 at Sephora and Shopper’s Drug Mart).
EYES: Chloe just had to use the “Girls on Film” palette in “Softbox”—six stone-cold and/or foxy shades of earth—from Smashbox ($51). For individual, less expensive, and more pigmented hues, get L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in “Permanent Khaki” and “Hourglass Beige” ($10.99 each at Shopper’s and other drugstores). For the insouciant cat-eye, it’s Smashbox liquid eyeliner in black ($25).
CHEEKS: For Audrey’s peachy-keen girlish sheen, use a cream or liquid-type cheek colour; it’s glowier than any powder. Here, Smashbox cream blush in “Chiffon” ($29) meets Benefit’s “Cha-Cha Tint” ($36).
SKIN: Chloe used Smashbox Studio Skin ($48), a hydrating foundation guaranteed to last you a full day on set—or, like, a Twin Peaks marathon. To spotlight bone structure, she used a Makeup Forever highlighting cream in “Uplight” ($33 at Sephora) and a M.A.C. highlighter in “Pearl” ($23).
