This week in our ongoing exploration of real street style–what you wear to work–Sarah Blais finds three fashion PR girls getting dressed for a big week ahead.
Christina Walters-Arseneau, 26 and just-married, has been at Rock-it Promotions for two years–but more like three, with the 14-hour workday. She’s attended six seasons of LG Fashion Week and loves her job.
Walters-Arseneau says you can’t do PR without a blazer, the LBD (little black dress), and heels, because the more men you’re taller than, the better. She shops at White Crow, Remix, and Bicyclette Boutique, and online at Peacock Parade and Shopbop. Her shoes are Jeffrey Campbell, and she wears a lot of Tiffany’s, plus her grandma’s ring.
With experience at Alexander Wang and People’s Revolution under her skinny belt, Brill Communications publicist Nancy Morski is 23 going on 30. Her three PR-girl essentials are great big pockets (for Sharpies, Post-Its, smartphone and so on), comfortable shoes, and a Moleskine. At Brill, the code is all-black for events, so a nice bright lipstick is essential. Morski wears Cheap Monday pants, a “boyfriend” blazer by Wilfred, ALDO loafer-pumps, a Zara blouse, and Anna Sheffield’s “Bang Bang” ring. She let me in on her R2D2 tattoo (behind her ear) and her love for comics (with a good cup of tea). She shops at Carte Blanche, Philistine Vintage, French Connection and Danier in Toronto, and online at Solestruck, Ssense, Nasty Gal and ASOS.
On the brighter side, there’s Amina Said, the confident 25-year-old PR Coordinator for Holt Renfrew. She lives and breathes the fashion life (check her awesome Tumblr) and wouldn’t go to work without a smartphone, a pair of Sue Londons, and a good shoulder bag to put it all in.
Said’s style starts at Holts, where her paycheque gets spent on statement jewelry and those “pow-wow” pieces you can dress up or down. Here she wears Celine shoes, an Alexander Wang dress and a Danni Jo necklace. She’s set for the opening show of LG Fashion Week on Monday, in which Holts presents the Spring 2012 collections of Canadian darlings Denis Gagnon, Dennis Merotto, Jeremy Laing, Lida Baday, Naked & Famous, Smythe, TwentyCluny and Wings + Horns.
