Josh McIntyre, lead vocalist and guitarist of local post-punk outfit Little Girls just put out a limited edition of his band’s LP, Cults, which was pressed on red vinyl. Don’t worry: the eccentricities associated with rare and coloured vinyl collecting are (thankfully) lost with McIntyre, who is one of those composed, exuberant, cool guys who’s girlfriend is probably hotter than yours, but he’s not gonna throw it in your face or anything (although they are working on a record together under the name Prince Innocence).
His DJ persona strikes a similar tone. In our eighth instalment of StandardTapes, McIntyre explores a steady range of his favourite sonic offerings, from up-tempo gutter dance-punk with Elite Gymnastics to the blissful asphyxia of CFCF into rock n’ roll history with The Walker Brothers. The mix is as divergent as they come. But, he’s managed to create an icy fluidity between tracks that shouldn’t lay comfortably side-by-side, because he’s so chiiiiillll.
