Jason Russell, co-founder of Invisible Children and director of the controversial “Kony 2012” viral video was arrested Thursday night by the San Diego Police Department for allegedly masturbating in public and vandalizing cars… Say what?
According to reports from TMZ and NBC7, the sudden celebrity was seemingly under the influence of some kind of substance when he was detained. Police received several calls about a man in “various stages of undress, running through traffic and screaming.” When they arrived on the scene they found Russell wearing “speedo-like underwear” and “acting very strange.” Despite his bizarre alleged behaviour, apparently Russell was co-operative with police who brought him to a medical facility for further evaluation and treatment.
Invisible Children CEO, Ben Keesey, released a statement this afternoon saying “Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition. He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday.”
