Toronto’s commercial real-estate development boom continues. Developer Cadillac Fairview released the designs yesterday for a new office tower at the corner of York St. and Bremner St. in the city’s burgeoning South Core district. The 32-storey high-rise designed by architectsAlliance and B + H Architects is defined by a “dramatic offset” at 22-storeys that gives the impression of two boxes stacked slightly askew. 16 York also features 40-foot ceilings in the lobby, connection to the underground PATH network and a green roof-topped podium shared with the neighbouring Ice condominium development. The project is still awaiting approval from the City.
Though the majority of construction projects currently underway in Toronto are condominiums, commercial development in the city is progressing at an astonishing rate as well. The 16 York release comes on the heels of the announcement of the 1 million square foot Bay Adelaide Centre East last week. UrbanToronto.ca reported yesterday that there is nearly 10 million square feet of office space under development in the city’s core making it one of the busiest commercial real-estate markets in North America, second only to New York City.
