Rich and Brenna Neeley of Southern California are lovers of classic hardcover books and hated the idea of discarded tomes adding to landfill. So they began fashioning found vintage books into coasters, shelves, paperweights and night stands around their home, and even as centrepieces for their wedding. That burst of biblio-inspired creativity led them to establish Rich Neeley Designs proper, and explore more possibly profitable ways of bringing old books back to life. Their latest idea is the iPod dock.
Called the ‘inbook,’ it’s a simple, charming idea–a lovely hardback book being so much more attractive than the plastic seat Apple sells along with the iPod. Though for all intents and purposes it appears just like a book, the inbook is sealed as a solid unit for stability and function, with the charger cord hidden inside. It’s compatible with all iPods and iPhones (iPhone 3G, 3GS & iPhone 4G), and accommodates syncing with your computer via a USB cable.
The inbook retails through the Rich and Brenna’s Etsy store for $50. Choose from a number of classic hardbacks including Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Picture of Dorian Gray or Treasure Island.
