ADVERTISING SALES ASSOCIATE
The Standard is seeking a sales associate that is motivated, hard-working and detail-oriented. This position would compliment our exisitng advertising team.
Immediate Responsibilities:
- Will be responsible for generating and collecting insertion orders as well as inputting all new advertising contracts
- Work closely with the production team in order to ensure a seamless process of gathering advertising materials
- Assist in the RFP process, as needed
- Responsible for managing competitive reports
- Responsible for working with our fulfillment company on subscription issues
- Responsible for managing online advertising systems
Requirements:
- Positive attitude and a willingness to work in a fast-paced environment
- Effective time management and excellent organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to learn new software and manage databases
- Ability to interface with advertising partners in a professional manner
- Strong work ethic
- 1-2 years of professional work experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a leading college or university

WRITERS - Positions are currently available for our Sprawl, Foreign Desk, Technology and Business sections.
Successful candidates will work from the Toronto Standard newsroom, writing news briefs, commentary and long-form features for the webiste on a daily basis. Experience in a daily news environment is preferred, but not necessary. Successful candidates will pitch unique, local, national or internationl story ideas to the Standard's editorial board on a regular basis. Familiarity with SEO and social media best practices is a must.
Interested candidates should exemplify familiarity with the many topics covered by the Standard and possess a keen sense of where their skills would best be utilized.

INTERNSHIPS -
The Toronto Standard is a daily digital briefing on the life of the city, covering urban affairs, business, technology, culture and design.
We are looking for college students or recent graduates to work at the Toronto Standard’s Queen and Bathurst office as editorial interns for the spring and summer months.
Job duties include:
- Building our daily and business cable
- Writing articles and blog posts for the website
- Working on longer term features of interest
- Helping manage day to day editorial content
- Creating and maintaining a calendar of local events
Ideal candidate would have:
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Enthusiasm for the position
- Strong work ethic
- Excellent organizational skills
- Bachelor’s or graduate degree in journalism or a related field
- Familiarity with basic computer software including Microsoft Word, Photoshop
The internship is unpaid, but will offer hands-on experience in running a daily online publication. Interns are also eligible to receive academic credit for their time at the Standard. Please contact your career counselor or an academic advisor for more information.
