Rumpelstiltskin lent his magic touch to World MasterCard Fashion Week on Tuesday night, spinning straw into gold and knitting it into luxury sweaters at the LINE Knitwear runway show.
High quality knitwear is the ultimate luxury, and LINE knitwear upped the ante on basic sweaters by adding metallic gold accents to the knits.
The standout selections of the show were the all-white knits that looked as soft and fluffy as marshmallows and a black lace cut out sweater that twinkled in the strobe light as it came down the runway. There were lightweight black sweaters with gold flecks in a Rorschach pattern, and some of the sweaters looked like they had been dipped in a vat of liquid gold. Clearly, the LINE design duo John Muscat and Jennifer Wells have been blessed with the Midas touch.
Beyond the “Alpine ski bunny goes disco” vibes was a healthy selection of snuggly knits, perfect for cozying up to a crackling fire in an ski chalet with a mug of herbal tea. For those who prefer their knitwear matte, there were plenty of dimpled cream and black duster sweaters, along with more subdued colours on offer like moss green and taupe the colour of sedimentary rock layers. Though less flashy, some of these pieces were remarkable: I literally gasped at a swingy taupe jacket with leather sleeves.
Luxurious knitwear is probably one of the best investment purchases you can make. We all know that you can get way more mileage out of a simple and classic chunky knit than a four-figure cocktail dress. LINE knitwear seem to have that all figured out, and it’ll be no surprise this fall when the fashion crowd is LINE-d* up out the door to get their hands on this collection.
*Groan-inducing bad pun.
