Summertime. The season of itty-bitty dresses and sheer fabrics that cling to your body like, well, cling wrap. Although I don’t support the idea of one ‘ideal’ body type and have qualms about Mad Men bringing back the girdle and other things that women burned in the 1960s, I get that women want to feel confident.
What I don’t understand is getting dolled up for a night out when you’re wearing what’s tantamount to a microfiber chastity belt. Best case scenario: you go home with some dimwit who thinks they’re just really secure pantyhose. Worst case scenario: you go home with anyone who’s not drunk enough to blackout the memory of your NASA-approved granny panties from his mind forever. Which means you’re probably just as drunk and wind up passed out on his bathroom floor… naked except for your granny panties. No matter what, wearing hideous shapewear when you don’t have to is a lose-lose proposition.
And you really don’t have to. Shapewear brands have finally realized that women who buy special undergarments to look sexier might actually WANT TO HAVE SEX.
