John Muscat is a man after my own heart.
“If it was up to me everything would be grey and black,” he told me about the colour palette for Line Knitwear, the label he designs with Jennifer Wells. “So I’m not allowed to pick colour.”
The presentation of their newest collection took place Wednesday in early evening. The theme – as described by Jenn – was rustic remix; an artisanal take, in an artistic way. The woman that the designers envision every season has become a little tougher and a little harder but will forever want to be engulfed by the ultra cozy knits this duo provides.
While at first the palatte was saturated with greys, blacks and whites, the collection was punched up with the appearance of rust, green and amethyst wound into the signature patterns of the oversized, belted sweaters.
Like most other designers this season, Muscat and Wells worked the occasional leather accent into the garments. “It makes it cooler, it toughens her [their proverbial muse girl],” said Muscat.
“The leather is what hardens up everything,” added Wells.
Despite the name and namesake of the label, knits weren’t the only stand-alone pieces that made a splash. Metal and stud-encrusted collars, pleated trousers, lambskin-collared bomber jackets and crochet peek-a-boo skirts made up the rest of the collection that had audience members pointing out select pieces they hope to own in the future.
