In a city like Toronto, thereʼs a lot going on. If you can stay on top of every single event happening in the city, you need to bottle and sell that talent. For everyone else, thereʼs Eventseekr.
Eventseekr is available for free on all platforms – Android, BlackBerry and iPhone, and is a great app that gives users a thorough listing of events happening in the City. Users can search through events and categories, including concerts, clubbing and nightlife, arts and museums, sports, and festivals and fairs.
All Screenshots: AndroidZoomMy ï¬rst impression of the app was that its appearance isnʼt the greatest, but it is very practical. If you can get past its looks, you will ï¬nd a ton of useful event information to sift through. Users are provided with a variety of options that go above and beyond the event youʼre searching for, which is very helpful, especially if you are unfamiliar with a particular area, or are travelling to another city.
Depending on the event, the app also gives some additional background and historical information about the act. Eventseekr allows users to purchase tickets online, ï¬nd the location, see related images, and ï¬nd, and book nearby accommodations through booking.com. In addition, and this really is the most important part, you can ï¬nd bars, pubs and restaurants within the vicinity of an event. Eventseekr allows users to log in using Facebook, and post events on their walls to share with friends.
However, there are a few downsides to Eventseekr. Mainly, there are some listings for events that wonʼt happen. For example, I found listings for Maple Leafs playoff games. Perhaps the app developers thought the Leafs had more on their favour than most of their fans did? Perhaps not.
Another downside? It is really easy to ï¬nd a particular band, or location, but itʼs not possible to save it as a favourite, or to get alerts when your favourite band, for example, is rolling through Toronto.
Some locations offer a gallery of photos for users to view, but often, the photos may appear distorted, badly cropped, or both. While the app suggests great places to eat, or favourable hotels nearby, you canʼt narrow your search to a particular item, you can only sort through what is listed.
Beyond that, there is no review or comment feature, though this app would be handy to have when travelling. Reading through comments helps give a better sense of what a particular location is like. I hope they add this feature moving forward.
Overall, Eventseekr has a lot of information to offer. If you need an idea for a date, want to do something with a group of buddies, plan on doing some travelling this summer, or look to entertain some out-of-town guests and donʼt want to show them the typical touristy spots in Toronto, Eventseekr is the app for you.
