The tech field, which has traditionally been populated by men, is seeing changes. Although only 25 percent of science, tech, engineering and math jobs are currently held by women, the numbers are beginning to rise. Women are becoming increasingly involved in tech companies, with 2012 seeing an increase of women in tech by 28.9 percent. The trend comes at a time when 55 percent of all social media users are women, with the average social gamer being a 43 year-old female.
Women working in science, tech, engineering, and math are shown to earn an average of 33 percent more than women in other industries, making the wage gap 7 percent less in the tech field. Tech companies are also benefiting from having women in higher positions. Companies whose boards of directors contained 3 or more female members are shown to have higher returns on sales, returns on investments, and returns on equity.
