“Hallelujah,” said Premier Kathleen Wynne to a group of reporters that were with her.
She wasn’t reciting the lyrics to Leonard Cohen’s “Halleujah,” or the exceptional Jeff Buckley cover; instead, that was her response to news that John Tory, one of her long time friends, became the mayor of Toronto.
The premier, who’s currently on a trade mission in China, says she’s looking forward to working with Tory. “Congratulations to John. I’m very pleased for him and I look forward to working with him,” she said.
“He is somebody who’s got good working relationships with both senior levels of government and that’s extremely important. We need a mayor in Toronto . . . who can work with the provincial government and the federal government,” she added, clearly alluding to her previous (non)relationship with Rob Ford.
For the time being at least, the Tory era in Toronto appears to have gotten off to a serene start. [via Toronto Star]
