The picture above shows a demonstration Latvian cyclists took part in the city of Riga during International Car Free Day.
It beautifully shows how car traffic impacts road congestion. Unfortunately, it’s something that Toronto’s motorist—and, indeed, motorists around the world—need to be reminded of.
The photos were posted by cycling advocacy group Let’s Bike It on Vk.com, which is Russia’s version of Facebook.
As news website Vox notes, the photos recall the famous “Waste of Space” poster that was created by the German city of Münster in 1991. The photo has been recreated countless times in different cities around the world, but Toronto’s version of the photo, which shows the city’s iconic red streetcar, is perhaps one of the more memorable iterations of the photo and the version of the photo that should be familiar to almost every Torontonian.
Now if only a certain mayor and his mayoral candidate brother could see the photos. Not that it would change their tune, but one can hope for a miracle. [via [Via Vox]
