According to the Toronto Star, both the Toronto Transit Commission and Mayor Rob Ford reached out to beleaguered New York City officials to offer assistance in dealing with Hurricane Sandy’s aftermath.
On the TTC side, according to TTC spokesperson Brad Ross, CEO Andy Byford emailed New York City transit officials, offering “whatever they need – track, signal, structural, electrical expertise, vehicle engineers.” The TTC operates North America’s second busiest transit system, and with the two cities being relatively near, the TTC is well positioned to offer New York the assistance it needs to get its transit system back in operation.
Toronto city council also decided to help New York with its post-Sandy cleanup. After city council passed the decision, Mayor Ford phoned Mayor Bloomberg, offering help in the form of manpower and whatever else the city might need. [Toronto Star]
