Toronto ranked the 4th most liveable city, according to annual poll
Vancouver and Calgary also rank highly.

Not only is Toronto the 10th most influential city in the world, it’s also one of the most liveable, according to a new ranking.

The annual Economist Intelligence Unit Poll found Toronto to be the fourth most city pleasant city to live in. In fact, Canadian cities in general did exceptionally well on the poll, with Vancouver and Calgary flanking Toronto as the third and fifth most liveable cities.

Top honours went to Melbourne, making 2014 the fourth year in year in a row the Australian city has been named the most liveable city in the world. Vienna, with all its fancy culture and beautiful architecture, was ranked second. On the other side of the spectrum, Damascus, the war-torn capital of Syria, ranks the lowest.

The survey rates the liveability of cities based on a number of different factors, including stability and the quality of health care, culture, the environment, education and infrastructure. Notably missing from the list is the cost of renting an apartment, because, let’s be honest, Toronto and Vancouver would probably not rate so high if that was factored into the EIU’s calculations.

Still, we live in a wonderful city, and if this week’s polls say anything, it’s that we should be proud to call Toronto home. [Via Globe and Mail]
