After reports of missing cities, wobbly bridges and completely false directions, Apple has publicly confirmed that they screwed up, big time, with their homemade Maps application.
CEO Tim Cook released an apology letter on the company’s website on Friday.
“We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better,” says the letter.
Cook explains that Apple Maps was launched with the goal of providing users with “even better Maps” features such as vector-based maps and turn-by-turn directions. However, the product that was released “fell short,” says Cook.
“We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stop until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard,” says the letter.
Reportedly, Google is working on its own Maps app that should be finished by the end of the year, says the New York Times. Until then, Cook urges users to try alternative mapping applications from the App Store or to create an icon on the iPhone home screen that links to the Google or Nokia mapping website.
