When the Black Hoof Café closed up shop back in 2011, spirits fell amongst lovers of indulgent meaty brunches citywide. Gone were the hour-long line-ups for foie fras French toast (arguably the best thing I’ve ever eaten) and strawberry bone marrow beignets. Gone was the beef-tongue grilled cheese, the suckling pig benny, the light out of our brunch-loving lives.
Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but the return of the Hoof Hoof Café–announced this weekend by owner Jen Agg herself on twitter–will certainly bring cheer to the hearts of more than a few winter-hardened souls. The Café’s reincarnation comes in the form of a permanent pop-up at the Hoof Raw Bar (926 Dundas St. W), open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm, and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm.
While others have stepped in to fill the shoes of the café in its absence (the delicious brunch at Stockyards garnering it’s own lengthy line-ups), there’s always room in our hearts and stomachs for one more.
