North Korea Announces a New Rocket Launch, Ben Mulroney to co-host with Ripa in Banff, and another vote for LRT. Your Morning Cable

North Korea Announces a New Long-Range Rocket Launch

On Friday, North Korea announced plans to launch a new, long-range, satellite-carrying rocket. This news comes barely two weeks after agreeing to a moratorium on long-range missile tests, in exchange for food aid from the U.S.

The communist state’s official news agency declared the rocket blast will occur between April 12 and 16, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of North Korean founding leader, Kim Il-Sung.

But, though these tests might be in violation of a recent deal with Washington, the state media argues that these satellite launches are just part of a “peaceful space program.” Hmm. In spite of that proclamation, South Korea’s foreign ministry declared any launch, even if simply exploratory, would breach this peaceful resolution, and be a “grave, provocative act.”

“Ben, I feel like he’s a member of our Live! family,” said Ripa in an interview with Beverly Thomson this morning. “Hes been to the set so many times, like [in PEI]. He’s a great broadcaster, and so much fun, why not borrow him for the day if he wants to?”

Though guests have yet to be announced, the Banff episodes, and B-Mulrones’ American co-hosting debut, will air the week of April 2.

A Sheppard Panel Votes Overwhelmingly in Favour of LRT; Sorry, Scarborough

According to a report made public Friday, a panel of transit experts will strongly recommend light rail transit for Sheppard Ave. Mayor Rob Ford, ever the subway champion, has dismissed this report, repeating his mantra that, “people want subways.”

In the report, the advisory panel suggests that LRT will be the best option for changes to Sheppard Ave. Through examining LRT, a full subway line, or adding two additional subway stops to Victoria Park Ave., the experts used rigorous analysis to determine the best means to spend the already-allocated $8.4-Billion of funding for transit expansion in the city.

Scoring based on nine criteria, each transit option was given a score out of five. The final numbers were tallied alongside extra criteria. As per a Toronto Star report, the panel strongly advocated for LRT on Sheppard, with 87.3 per cent support for LRT, 59.3 per cent for a subway line, and 59.5 per cent for the construction of two subway stops.

Glamorous.
