The Toronto Transit Commission is looking to provide cell service for passengers by 2014.
TTC officials spoke to thestar.com on Monday, saying available cell service for users waiting on subway platforms could be available, at most stations, in up to two years. According to the proposal, 61 underground TTC stations will be prepped for service, and Broadcast Australia PTY will pay the TTC $25-million over 20 years.
This accessibility is particularly ideal for riders looking to communicate in case of an emergency, a safety concern, or travel delays and closures. While pay phones are scattered around each subway platform, this deal will help enable mobile access.
CityNews reports Toronto city councillors are scheduled to vote on this deal on Wednesday.
McGuinty will not challenge Trudeau
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty will not challenge Justin Trudeau in the federal Liberal leadership race, after a week of speculation.
McGuinty, who unexpectedly resigned from his provincial leadership role last week, told the Canadian Press he is looking for new challenges outside the realm of politics after “carefully consider[ing] a run for the Liberal leadership.”
“I’ve talked it over with family and supporters and I’ve decided not to run,” said McGuinty, to the Canadian Press.
Though a source close to the premier said his federal leadership run would reportedly be endorsed by up to “two former prime ministers,” McGuinty will not have a dog in this fight — for now.
Following the Ontario Liberal leadership vote on Jan. 25, McGuinty will serve as the MPP for Ottawa South for the remainder of the provincial term.
Zack Morris meets Kim Bauer?
Time out! Mark-Paul Gosselaar, forever Zack Morris in our hearts, will guest star on ABC’s Happy Endings as Max’s “new mysterious roommate,” Chase.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting the Franklin & Bash star will appear on episode 10 of the new season, which airs on Sunday on CityTV, and Tuesdays on ABC. This is the second high-profile guest spot for Gosselaar, who is scheduled to appear on the season premiere of Don’t Trust the B—– in Apt. 23, playing himself.
But the real question is, what will the Saved by the Bell hearthrob bring to the show? A one-episode romantic arc with Elisha Cuthbert’s Alex, the artist formerly known as Kim Bauer, perhaps? Two years ago, Gosselaar had a memorable steamy hookup with Mary-Louise Parker’s character on Weeds, finally answering which first name hyphenate TV stars made for the hottest on-screen couple.
