The TTC is moving forward with major reconstruction that will shut down the Spadina Ave and King St W. intersection in all four directions, for two weeks. The construction will begin on Tuesday, August 6th at 10 am and will end on Tuesday, August 20th at 6 am. The street closures will affect streetcar service and driver accessibility, leaving only pedestrian access to businesses and walkways untouched. The closures are due to the reconstruction of the streetcar track and partial reconstruction of the road and sidewalk.
Commuters who rely on streetcar service will have to modify their commute: throughout the construction period, there will be no service on the 504 King and 508 Lakeshore between Shaw St and Church St. The cars will be sent up to Queen St and will be picking up patrons at the Queen and Osgood subway stations. The 510 Spadina streetcar will be replaced with a curb-side bus, riding from Spadina to Queens Quay. The Spadina car service will be restored on August 20th and will operate to Charlotte’s Loop. Bus service on Spadina will continue to operate from King St down to Queens Quay.
Eastbound traffic approaching Spadina Avenue will be detoured to Bathurst, Portland, or Brant. Westbound traffic on King approaching Spadina will be sent to John, Peter, or Charlotte. Northbound traffic on Spadina approaching King will be detoured to Bremner, Blue Jays Way, or Front. Southbound traffic on Spadina approaching King will be routed to Queen, Richmond, or Adelaide.
The City of Toronto and TTC have suggested alternative routes heading east and west: Front, Adelaide, and Queen, and north and south: Bathurst and University.
