That bike of yours has way more potential than merely getting you to and from work, life and love. If your legs have enough pedal power you could potentially attach a large trailer and haul all sorts of things, or you could buy a cargo bike, which seem to be becoming more and more prominent in Toronto, especially around farmers markets. If you were to see someone around town hauling a mattress or chest of draws on a bike, you might snigger and rightly assume that no they do not have a Porsche at home, on any set of four wheels in fact. Then again, with the rising cost of gas there might soon come a day when we’ll see some dapper hipster transporting his or her entire life on a bike between rental apartments. And why not? Consider the above images by Alain Delorme, in which the Paris-based photographer captures the daily rounds made by Shanghai couriers. Then you’ll understand it’s all about balance and strapping; effectively tying down your boxes, crates, eggs or chickens. Having some knowledge of knot tying would surely help, as would riding three wheels rather than two–thus widening the load, and allowing you to stack even more. It’s not only in China, of course, we see couriers doing amazing things on two wheels or three. But we’re wondering, why not here?
