Tiny Tools Make Good Work

Micro Max 19-in-1 Multi Multi

This must be the best $19.99 ever spent – 19 tools in one small little gizmo. The Micro-Max 19-in-1 Multi made by Swiss Tech, offers a surprisingly comprehensive set of tools and is small enough to be smuggled into a prison. It’s an entire toolbox in your pocket, or attached to your house keys and is made entirely of solid stainless steel-intended to last. Always with you for those unexpected small jobs, like withdrawing a thorn from a lion’s paw, cutting the fence to a protected military complex, or just some simple home dentistry.  With all the functionality of a fat Army Knife, but without the bulk and worry of carrying knife blades around, the tools include two hex wrenches (1/4 inch and 7/16 inch), six screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutter, wire stripper, wire crimper, hand drill, file, bottle opener, two rulers (mm & inch), and two ruler extensions. At a mere 3.2oz, you could hang it round your neck as a functional man medallion

MAKO Bike Tool

The MAKO bike tool is named after a particularly fast species of shark, but any connection to the ocean stops there. This genius little item won ‘Best in Show’ at last years Outdoor Retailer show and it’s no surprise. Tiny and made entirely of Aerospace Titanium, it is designed for bike mechanics on go and Sunday coasters alike, who appreciate traveling light, safe in the knowledge they can whip it out and fix and fiddle beside the road when ever they wish. It weighs 19 grams and comes with five metric box wrench sizes of 8mm, 9mm, 10mm, 15mm and 16mm. Both 14G and 15G spoke wrenches and the designers have also kindly included a bottle opener for that post ride frosty beer. Made in the Pacific Northwest by PocketToolX tools, it is also branded as TSA-safe, which means you can carry the MAKO with you on board an aircraft. Perfect incase you drop your watch, or wedding ring down one of those airline toilets. You’ll have it all apart in no time. $69US + free shipping.

Credit Card Survival Tool

Many people could not survive without their credit car and some have even been known to try and open doors with them, more often with disappointing results. The Pocket Camper and Survival Tool is designed to get you out of a jam and with the right aim you could probably stun a squirrel with it as well. Easy to keep on you at all times and ready for what life may deal out, it weighs just 1.2oz and made entirely from stainless steel. It comes with a knife, wood saw blade, bottle-can opener, flat edge screw driver, various size wrenches, butterfly screw opener, bearing plate for button compass, ruler, lanyard hole and a carrying case. It seems the ideal multi tool to have tucked away with your visa and donor card, but from the small size of the tools, you may die before you can saw a tree down, or gut a moose. And if you don’t know how to use a compass, that means you’ve become over dependant of the GPS setting on your iPhone. In which case, the squirrels will probably end up eating you. $5.95.
