Boom, it’s too exciting to not to feed you the juiciest thing about The Darcys: the Toronto band just re-made the classic 1977 Steely Dan album, Aja. For those adverse to Steely Dan, we suggest an immediate revisit. Or why not get taken in for the first time by the Darcys new effort? The majestic adaptation, which takes the same name as the Steely Dan encasement, is triumphal, a jazzy, layered, heavy-pop record, but a mitigation between the jazz rock classic and avant-indie, for those looking to take leave from the omnipresent avant acts and look back while still looking forward. And oh, don’t worry–those infectious late-seventies climactic pop progressions remain.
Their StandardTape has a similarly time-transpiring tone, fusing some brand new stuff from labelmates TRUST with the aesthetically unmatched James Blake, and even a little Gorillaz.
