As if you needed any more reasons to look forward to the summer, LA-based designer Mathias Hintermann has combined the two greatest reasons to go outside: cycling and grilling meat. Introducing “Backbrat,” the barbecue that mounts on the back of your bike.
The key to Backbrat is the compact, lightweight design. The plastic “fixer” mounts onto your rear bike rack and then the grill made of fibreglass, silicone and polyurethane insulator, slides and locks into place. Everything you need to get cooking – including cutting board, boiling container, tongs and charcoal – are fit inside the grill.
Hintermann offers a detailed look into the design and development on his website. He’s targeting the German market where apparently people consumed 5.9 pounds of bratwurst each in 2011, but if these things sell online you can bet they’ll be popping up at Trinity Bellwoods as soon as the sun comes out.
